What physical methods are there to reduce the baby's fever? How can a baby's fever be reduced quickly?

A baby's fever is something that makes parents worry and distress. Today I will tell you about the physical treatment methods for baby's fever. If a baby takes medicine every time he is sick when he is young, it is easy to cause the baby to become dependent. Therefore, using physical methods to reduce the baby's fever is a good way.

Physical cooling methods

Warm and wet compress

Apply warm water to the child's body. The evaporation of warm water can absorb the heat from the child's body, which has a good cooling effect and is simple to operate.

method:

1. Prepare warm water, the hot water temperature should be around 30℃.

2. Undress the baby, wet the towel, and rub the baby's body up and down with the warm towel.

3. Change the towel every ten minutes.

Warm bath

Water is a good conductor of heat. When a child's body temperature is high, he or she can take a bath in warm water at around 35 to 37 degrees. A large amount of heat in the child's body will flow into the water, and the temperature will drop very quickly. It is also very good for keeping children warm, especially for some babies who like to play in water. It can also relieve the baby's emotions.

Method: Just like taking a bath at other times, the main thing is that the water temperature should not be too high. It should be controlled at around 35 degrees to have a good cooling effect.

Ice

Ice compresses mainly work by cooling the large blood vessels throughout the body. When the blood flows through these blood vessels, its temperature will drop, slowly lowering the body temperature. In addition, ice compresses can also reduce the brain's oxygen consumption and prevent high temperatures from damaging brain cells.

method:

1. Put homemade ice cubes just taken out of the refrigerator into a plastic bag, tie it tightly, put it in 2-3 layers to prevent leakage, and then wrap a towel on the outside.

2. Apply ice packs to the back of the head, forehead, armpits, neck, groin and other places where large blood vessels pass. Change them every 5 minutes until the high fever subsides.

3. The ice pack should be wrapped with a layer of cloth to prevent local frostbite. If the baby shivers, feels cold, turns blue or has purple skin, stop using it immediately.

Alcohol cooling

Alcohol evaporates very quickly, much faster than water. Therefore, when a child's temperature is too high and there is no good way to deal with it, you can apply some alcohol on the palms, soles of the feet, chest, armpits, neck, forehead, etc. of the child, which will quickly cool down the child.

method:

1. Add alcohol: Take one part of 95% alcohol purchased from the pharmacy, add two parts of warm water, stir evenly and set aside; if it is 75% alcohol, add the same amount of warm water as the alcohol. If there is no alcohol on hand, you can also use 60° white wine instead. When using white wine, you can mix one part of white wine with 2/3 part of water.

2. Dip gauze or a small towel in water and wipe the baby's body, generally where there are more blood vessels, such as the neck, armpits, thigh roots, etc. These areas have fast blood circulation, shallow blood vessels, and are easy to dissipate heat.

3. Apply in a certain order, from top to bottom, from left to right, pat and rub until the skin turns slightly red, and pay attention to keeping the body parts warm. Move quickly, 5-10 minutes each time.

Note: When wiping, avoid the baby's head, face, abdomen, soles of the feet, and heart area in front of the chest to avoid causing adverse reactions.

Cooling patch

Cooling patches can now be purchased in many places. This is a gelatinous method of reducing fever. The cooling patch contains a lot of high-molecular hydrogel, which has a strong heat absorption effect. When a child has a fever, sticking a piece on the place where the aorta flows can have a good cooling effect.

Note: The cooling patch should not come into contact with hair, eyebrows, wounds, eyes or any abnormal skin areas.

Drink plenty of water

Give your child plenty of water to replenish body fluids. This is the most basic way to reduce fever, and it is very effective and suitable for all babies with fever. The reason why most parents think that infusion is effective is actually closely related to intravenous replenishment of body fluids. Some children are unwilling to drink water when they have a fever due to various reasons such as sore throat. At this time, drinking water is the most important thing. You can choose various fruit juice drinks, but of course the best is boiled water.

Lower the room temperature

Children need to exchange heat with the surrounding environment to reduce fever. The lower the ambient temperature, the better it is for reducing fever. The best ambient temperature is 20℃~24℃, which is conducive to a slow drop in body temperature. For small babies, especially in summer, as long as the baby's clothes are opened and placed in a cool place, his body temperature will slowly drop.

Hot water foot bath

Soaking your feet can promote blood circulation and relieve discomfort. Another benefit of soaking your baby's feet when he has a fever is that it can help cool him down. You can use a basin or a small bucket to soak your feet. Pour 2/3 of the basin with water. The water temperature should be slightly higher than usual, about 40 degrees Celsius, and the baby should be able to adapt to it.

Ice Pillow

When your baby has a high fever, you can make an ice pillow for him to use. It is comfortable and effective. Go to the hospital and buy an ice bag. Pour the ice cubes into a basin, break them into small pieces, rinse them with water to remove the edges and corners, put them into the ice bag, add 50-100 ml of water, do not fill it up, 2/3 full is enough, exhaust the air, clamp the bag mouth, wrap it with cloth or towel and place it under the baby's head and neck as a pillow.

How to detect baby's fever early

1. Touch

Usually, you can touch your baby's hands and the back of his neck frequently to know whether the baby's body temperature is normal. More importantly, you can understand whether the baby's clothes are appropriate. Wearing too much or too little is not good for the baby's health and comfort. Knowing the baby's normal body temperature, you can immediately "feel" if the baby has a fever. If you can roughly feel the baby's abnormal body temperature with your hands, you can touch the baby's forehead with yours. If you can clearly feel that the baby's forehead is hotter than yours, then the baby is probably having a fever.

2. Look

If your baby's face is flushed, lips are dry and hot, he cries and is restless, or has no appetite, he may have a fever. When you have a fever, your body consumes more water. If your baby's urine volume is less than usual and the urine is yellow and dark in color, your baby may also have a high temperature.

3. Test

Measuring body temperature with a thermometer is the most accurate. Usually, it is more accurate to measure the rectal temperature of a baby with a rectal thermometer (normal body temperature is 37℃~38℃), or to measure the baby's armpit or neck (normal body temperature is 36℃~37℃). The measured rectal temperature should be subtracted by 0.5℃, and the armpit and neck temperature should be added by 0.5℃. The obtained degree is the baby's current body temperature, so you can know the baby's accurate body temperature and whether he has a fever. It is best not to use an oral thermometer to measure the body temperature of preschool babies to avoid accidents.

How many degrees of fever can be reduced by physical cooling

When a baby has a fever, 38.5℃ is the watershed between physical cooling and drug cooling. Although fever caused by infection can stimulate the immune system to fight the disease, if it develops into a high fever, it may affect brain function and may also cause high fever convulsions. Since it takes a certain amount of time for antipyretics to take effect, in order to prevent the body temperature from rising to 39℃, antipyretics should usually be given to babies when the body temperature reaches 38.5℃. Do not blindly avoid drugs and always use physical cooling methods.
