Children's reading enlightenment: 6 skills to help you advance smoothly

If a child's interest in reading is not established before the age of three, the child may be afraid of reading, avoid reading, or even have spelling and writing difficulties in the future. How to help children develop an interest in reading is the primary issue besides feeding them.

Children's reading enlightenment

For parents who have not started a reading program or have children with reading difficulties, you need to make more efforts to correct your children's behavior. Don't blame them, don't complain, don't give up, you just need to take action! Maybe in just one month or less, your children may go from hating books to actively picking up books to read.

For young children, they should be at a stage where they are full of curiosity about the world. Therefore, for children at this stage, reading enlightenment should fully satisfy their curiosity and make them feel that reading is a process of adventure, an interesting process, and a process of discovering all kinds of new things/obtaining new information. With the guidance of such an environment, children will naturally fall in love with reading over time.

1. How about being a magician?

If the beginning of the reading changed from "Children, come, let me tell you a story" to "Come, come, let me perform a magic trick for you", which one do you think children would like?

I think most kids would like the second one.

My mother didn't force me to study, she played with me, and she even performed magic for me. Such a mother is awesome!

You need to prepare a large envelope or any tool that can hold the books your child likes. After interacting with your child, you can conjure up a book and read the contents of the book to your child. Your child may fall in love with this form. Of course, if you can really learn some simple magic and show off your skills, wouldn’t it be better?

2. Encourage children’s desire for adventure/princess complex

For boys, the story of "Harry Potter" may be more attractive than the story of "The Little Mermaid", so based on the gender differences and interest characteristics of children, look for books that they are particularly interested in reading. Starting with these books, help children create a lot of imagination space, and the results may be very different.

No one stipulates that children's reading must be works of the Grand Medal. If the child likes cars, read them picture books about cars; if they like princesses, start with picture books about princesses; if they like science fiction, start with science fiction.

Read more than just paper books

With the prosperity of the book market, we can find books of various materials, such as paper, cloth, hole books, puzzles, and movable books. Adults are dazzled by the variety, but this does not affect children's exploration and interest in books of various materials!

In addition, children do not have to read only classics. Jokes, brain teasers, comics, and wordless books can also stimulate children's interest in reading.

If a child does not love reading, then what parents need to do is to provide the child with a variety of books that are appropriate for their age and reading level so that the child is not bored or frustrated, then they can become a great child who loves reading.

Children also need to "read" parents, do you read?

For children, if they don't see their parents reading, they won't be able to pick up a book themselves. If you are too busy at work, you can always spare 15 minutes every day to read, and share the interesting things you read with your children. You can communicate with your children on an equal footing about your favorite protagonist, a certain paragraph, your favorite author, scene, and music.

If you want your child to develop good reading habits, then at least read for fifteen minutes a day. If you can do it, your child can do it too.

Create a reading corner of their own

Create a quiet place at home that children like and that they feel curious about and that is special. Let the reading corner become their space. With comfortable blankets, toys, and themed books, they will feel that it is really special to read and do what they like in their own space. Parents should encourage their children to do more things in their own reading corners.

For example: drawing, playing games, telling stories, and trying scientific activities.

Shared reading is fun

This is a great way to share, including reading, language expression, games, communication and so much more.

Hold a small reading salon at home and ask the children to bring a book to share. In this process, the children will be exposed to their peers' reading lists, reading methods, and reading content. In the process of sharing, they will also find common interests. If your children have not read, they may be eager to pick up the book and read, so that they can better participate in the small circle of partners.
