Is painless childbirth done under general anesthesia? Does painless childbirth have any effect on the waist?

Many people think that painless childbirth means giving anesthesia during childbirth, and they are confused about whether it is general anesthesia or partial anesthesia. So, is painless childbirth general anesthesia? Does painless childbirth have any effect on the waist?

Is painless childbirth general anesthesia?

Every pregnant mother around me has a question: How to reduce the pain of childbirth?

"Should I have a cesarean section or a natural birth? Is the cesarean section done with general or partial anesthesia?"

"What is painless childbirth? Is it painful? Is it safe?"

Caesarean section or natural birth? General anesthesia or partial anesthesia?

The choice mainly depends on three aspects: the obstetrician, the anesthesiologist, and yourself.

The obstetrician will assess which method of delivery is more beneficial based on the condition of you and the fetus; the anesthesiologist will assess which method of anesthesia is more beneficial based on your physical condition.

The three basic conditions for achieving normal delivery include sufficient labor force, a normal pelvic cavity and a fetus of normal fetal position and appropriate size.

Before pregnancy, female friends can do more abdominal muscle exercises, such as aerobics, belly dancing, yoga, playing ball, swimming, skipping rope, sit-ups, etc. During pregnancy, it is not advisable to do too intense and confrontational exercises. You can do moderate exercises, such as walking, yoga, swimming, cycling, climbing stairs, etc.

Exercise not only helps to achieve natural childbirth, but also reserves "combat power during pregnancy" for pregnant women. It also has a positive effect on maintaining the health of pregnant women.

Does painless childbirth affect the waist?

Although epidural labor analgesia (commonly known as: painless labor) is currently recognized as the safest and most reliable labor analgesia method, and has been increasingly accepted by the Chinese people, the most concerning issue for mothers is whether it will cause low back pain? Because the anesthesia operation method for painless labor is the same as that for cesarean section anesthesia, both involve puncturing the back and lower back, thereby guiding the insertion of a 0.85 mm thin soft catheter into the epidural space of the spinal canal, through which drugs are continuously administered to block sensory nerves, thereby effectively controlling pain. It is natural that because the anesthesia operation is performed on the back and lower back, it is natural for everyone to think that epidural puncture may be the culprit of postpartum low back pain. Mothers are worried about this issue, and medical staff also want to know whether there is such a connection.

In 2012, the famous British meta-analysis (Cochrane Review) collected relevant studies from around the world. Three studies with a total of 1,806 parturients were randomly divided into groups to compare the incidence of low back pain in 913 parturients who did not use epidural labor analgesia and 893 parturients who used epidural labor analgesia. The two groups had 361 (40%) and 337 (38%) chronic low back pain patients, respectively. This completely denied the hypothesis that low back pain is related to epidural analgesia. Moreover, it also let everyone know that the incidence of postpartum low back pain is about 40%.

Methods for preventing and treating postpartum back pain

1. Pay attention to prenatal prevention: Eat a reasonable diet to avoid being too fat and increasing the burden on the waist, causing damage to the waist muscles and ligaments. In addition, an oversized fetus will cause many difficulties and even complications for the mother during childbirth. Controlling weight has also become an important part of preventing birth injuries.

2. Pay attention to your body position before and after delivery: Get enough sleep after delivery, change your bed position frequently, avoid bending over or standing for a long time, avoid exerting too much force, and do not run or walk long distances too early, so as to avoid retroverted uterus or prolapsed uterus causing low back pain.

3. Proper calcium supplementation during the perinatal period: drink more milk, eat more calcium-rich foods such as sesame, and get more sun exposure to promote calcium absorption. While preventing back pain, it also provides enough calcium for the fetus and baby.

4. If you experience lower back pain and it does not get better with proper lower back massage and physical therapy, you should go to the hospital for treatment immediately.

5. Epidural nerve block, which is performed with the same needle as epidural labor analgesia, is a common and effective method for treating chronic low back pain.
