Children with retinoblastoma will not respond to light and their pupils will be white, much like they have cataracts. Director Li Wenhao said that there are about 200-300 cases of retinoblastoma in the United States each year, which means that one in every 10,000 people will suffer from retinoblastoma; and many of them are only affected in one eye, while the other eye is normal, causing the child to see with the normal eye, and the eye cannot focus, resulting in strabismus.

How to treat white pupils in children

As for the treatment of retinoblastoma, if it is discovered in the early stage, cryotherapy or phototherapy can be used; Director Li Wenhao further pointed out that if retinoblastoma has damaged the optic nerve, surgery is required to remove the entire eyeball. In addition to reconstruction of the appearance, psychological rehabilitation is also required, which is a serious matter.

How to prevent eye diseases in children

The inability to focus on objects in front of the eyes or to follow the light indicates that the child's binocular vision is very poor, or even blind. If the child does not respond when one eye is covered, but becomes irritable and cries when the other eye is covered, it indicates that the child has monocular vision impairment or amblyopia.

If you usually squint, tilt your head to watch TV, or read or watch TV at a close distance, you may have poor eyesight and refractive errors (hyperopia, myopia, astigmatism, etc.). Some children tilt their heads due to strabismus, which is called ocular torticollis.

Abnormal position of the eyes relative to each other, such as: cross-eyed (esotropia), exotropia, hypertropia, etc. Involuntary shaking of the eyeballs, medically known as nystagmus.

Photophobia: Children often squint their eyes to see things, or have symptoms of frequent blinking. Congenital glaucoma, entropion, corneal inflammation and damage, aniridia, albinism, intermittent exotropia, hypertropia and many other eye diseases will be afraid of light stimulation.

Tears and eye mucus: There is secretion in the corners of the eyes or eyelids, and tears are constantly flowing. It may be caused by conjunctivitis, entropion, congenital nasolacrimal duct occlusion and other diseases.

Red eyes: Symptom of redness of the white of the eyeball. It may be caused by conjunctivitis, keratitis, iridocyclitis, etc.

Leukocoria: The pupil area, which should be black, shows white or yellowish-white reflections, commonly known as "cat's eye". It may be caused by eye diseases such as retinoblastoma, retinopathy of premature infants, and congenital cataracts.

Abnormalities in the size of the palpebral fissure and eyeball. Such as ptosis; small cornea; small eyeball; iris defect; congenital glaucoma. When a patient with congenital ptosis is born, he cannot open his eyes for many days.
