Nosebleed is a very common thing in daily life. So, what should we do if children have nosebleeds? What to do if a child has a nosebleed1. Don’t raise your head when you have a nosebleed The nasal cavity is the "frontier post" of the respiratory tract. There is a membrane in the nasal cavity, and blood vessels and glands are distributed on the mucosa. In dry weather, the nasal mucosa will also become dry due to the influence of climate. In addition, some people, especially children, always like to pick their noses with their fingers, which can easily damage the nasal mucosa and cause nosebleeds. Many people will tilt their heads high after having a nosebleed. In fact, this is a wrong practice. Tilt your head back will cause blood to flow to the throat. When the amount of blood is too much and too fast, it is easy to choke into the trachea and lungs, causing respiratory obstruction. When you have a nosebleed, you should first sit down and relax your whole body, tilt your head slightly forward, never lie on your back, and never tilt your head back or lower your head. If there is blood in your mouth, you should try to spit it out. At this time, you can apply a cold towel to the head or the back of the neck, and use your fingers to apply slight pressure on the nose for 3 to 5 minutes. The strength of the finger pressure should be based on the slight pain you feel, and breathe with your mouth open. Roll up the sterile cotton or clean paper towel and stuff it into the bleeding nostril. Be careful not to stuff it too deep, and gently remove it after 10 minutes. If you find yourself bleeding from the nose, don't be nervous, because nervousness and impatience will increase your blood pressure, which can easily cause excessive blood loss and lead to complications. 2. Hydration is the best preventive measure The way to prevent nosebleeds is to hydrate the nose. First of all, pay attention to adjusting the indoor air humidity. You can spray more cold water or place a few pots of flowers in the room, or use an air humidifier. If you feel dry and uncomfortable in your nose, you can wipe it gently with a towel or cotton dipped in warm water, or fumigate it with steam from boiling water. Secondly, it is to reasonably allocate daily diet, mainly light diet, eat more foods rich in vitamins, drink more warm water, and do not pick your nose with your fingers to avoid damaging the blood vessels of the nasal mucosa. The treatment of nosebleed should start with the cause. If the nosebleed is caused by various rhinitis, the rhinitis should be treated first; if the nosebleed is caused by trauma or foreign objects in the nose, the trauma should be treated and the foreign objects should be removed; if the nosebleed is caused by systemic diseases, these diseases should be treated accordingly. Why do children have nosebleeds?1. Acute febrile infectious diseases In childhood, some infectious diseases with rapid onset and high fever often occur, especially upper respiratory tract infections. When a high fever occurs, the blood vessels of the skin and mucous membranes of the whole body become congested and swollen, and the nasal mucosa also undergoes such pathological changes. Acute congestion and swelling of the nasal mucosa are more likely to cause rupture and bleeding, because the blood vessels of the nasal mucosa are superficial. Once a severe fever occurs, coupled with the external force of blowing the nose hard, the blood vessels under the mucosa will rupture and bleed. 2. Trauma The nose is an organ exposed to the body surface. Once trauma occurs, such as blows or falls, the nose will naturally bear the brunt. Under the impact of severe trauma, the blood vessels under the mucosa will rupture and bleed. 3. Picking your nose Strictly speaking, nose picking should also be included in the scope of trauma. Children often like to use their fingers to pick blindly in the nasal cavity out of curiosity and discomfort. This is a bad habit that is not only unhygienic, but also easy to cause local mucosal bleeding in the nasal cavity. Generally, the nose is picked at the front and lower part of the nasal septum. There are many blood vessels in this area. Many tiny blood vessels are interwoven into a clump like a spider web. The blood vessels are superficial and very thin. The location is at the nasal opening. Just digging with your hands can break the blood vessels. More than 90% of children's nose bleeding occurs here. 4. Foreign bodies in the nasal cavity Normally, there is nothing blocking the nasal cavity except for some nasal mucus produced by secretion, so breathing is free and unobstructed. But sometimes, children like to put some small objects in their nasal cavity for fun, such as peanut kernels, melon seeds, fruit pits, soybeans, plastic paper, small metal toys, etc. Once these objects are stuffed into the nose, they become foreign bodies. Children cannot take them out by themselves, and dare not make a fuss. After a long time, they are forgotten and remain in the nasal cavity. Some foreign bodies swell and mold when they meet water in the nasal cavity, causing infection, erosion and bleeding of the nasal mucosa. Sometimes, under the adverse stimulation of foreign bodies, the nasal mucosa will also cause traumatic bleeding. 5. Blood diseases You should know that the blood in the human body's blood vessels should not bleed or coagulate, which is entirely determined by some special factors in the blood. If under the influence of certain factors, some factors in the blood will undergo a series of changes, causing the blood vessels and blood to bleed. It is not easy to coagulate and stop these diseases include leukemia, hemophilia, thrombocytopenic purpura, aplastic anemia, etc., collectively known as blood glass. This is the direct cause of nosebleeds in children, and will cause repeated and heavy bleeding. How to Prevent Nosebleeds1. Keep the room quiet, clean and at a suitable temperature. Keep the air fresh, open windows for ventilation, and keep the temperature between 18 and 20 degrees Celsius. Too dry air can induce nasal bleeding, so the air humidity should be ≥ 60%. 2. The elderly should move slowly during daily activities, avoid blowing their noses hard, and stop coughing symptomatically. 3. Eat some easily digestible soft food, eat more fruits and vegetables, avoid spicy and irritating food, and keep the bowels open. Those with constipation can be given laxatives. 4. Elderly patients with nosebleeds are often accompanied by hypertension, coronary heart disease, bronchitis, etc. They should regularly prevent and treat the primary disease and must carry out appropriate treatment according to the cause. Especially for patients with hypertension, blood pressure must be controlled to normal or near-normal levels as soon as possible, changes in the condition must be observed, and go to the hospital in time for treatment. What should children eat when they have nosebleeds due to internal heat?1. Water Chestnuts Water chestnuts are slightly cold in nature and rich in juice. They are very suitable for babies who suffer from residual heat after a fever, such as irritability, thirst, mouth sores, dry stools and yellow urine, etc. 2. Red dates Frequent nosebleeds will inevitably cause physical weakness and severe blood loss, and dates are known to have the function of replenishing blood and nourishing qi. Therefore, if you are a patient with frequent nosebleeds, you might as well eat more red dates, which can not only replenish your lost blood, but also replenish qi and nourish your skin. 3. Lettuce Lettuce is slightly cold in nature, tender and crisp, and has a lot of water. It has the functions of clearing away heat, relieving gas, and resolving phlegm. It is suitable for babies with heat in the lungs and stomach. 4. Celery Celery is cold in nature and can remove liver fire and relieve heat in the lungs and stomach. It is beneficial for babies who are prone to "getting angry" to eat it regularly. |
