How to heat breast milk must be done correctly

How to heat breast milk must be done correctly

Breast milk can be heated, but the heating method is very particular. It should be heated with water not exceeding 50 degrees, and the breast milk should be shaken while heating.

How to warm breast milk

1. Heating refrigerated breast milk is similar to winter soup and wine. Soak the breast milk container in warm water not exceeding 50 degrees Celsius to allow the milk to absorb the heat from the water and become warm, but do not let the warm water touch the mouth of the container storing the breast milk. When soaking, shake the container from time to time to ensure that the breast milk is heated evenly.

2. Frozen breast milk cannot be heated directly, otherwise it will destroy the nutrients in the breast milk. First, thaw it. If time permits, you can move the breast milk from the freezer to the refrigerator one night in advance. If time is tight, you can thaw the frozen breast milk with warm water. After it is completely thawed, refer to the heating method of refrigerated breast milk to heat it. Do not use a microwave to heat it.

Breastfeeding Misconceptions

Breastfeeding while lying down

Feeding while lying down is most likely to cause the baby to spit up. The correct way is for the mother to sit, put one foot on a small stool, and hold the baby to feed.

Feed and tease

Some mothers will deliberately tease their children to make them happy and eat more when breastfeeding. But be careful, if the child is teased, milk may enter the trachea by mistake, causing choking and even inducing pneumonia.

Breastfeeding with heavy makeup

A mother's natural body odor has a special appeal to her children, but heavy makeup will mask the mother's scent and it is easy for children to accidentally come into contact with or even ingest some cosmetics.

Breastfeeding while sick or taking medication

Mothers may also get sick during breastfeeding, and if they get sick, they will inevitably need to take medication. At this point, many mothers will be caught in a dilemma. In fact, whether it is taking medication without authorization or breastfeeding with illness, it may cause problems for the child, so the best way is to ask a doctor for guidance on whether the disease you are suffering from is suitable for continuing breastfeeding, and if you need to take medication, what medication is safer. In addition, many mothers will pay more attention to oral medication, but some topical medications, such as certain antifungal ointments, antibiotic ointments, hormonal ointments, etc., although only used on the outside of the skin, may also be absorbed through the skin when used on a large area or for a long time, causing harm to the child, so please consult a doctor before use and choose a safe topical medication.

Breast milk storage time at room temperature

There is a big difference in the storage time of breast milk at room temperature compared to that of breast milk stored in the refrigerator. The storage time of breast milk at room temperature is relatively short and it is easily affected by changes in indoor temperature, causing the breast milk to deteriorate prematurely.

There are generally two situations for the storage time of breast milk at room temperature

Colostrum (milk expressed within 6 days after delivery): can be stored for 12 hours at room temperature of 27-32℃.

Mature breast milk (milk expressed 6 days after delivery): can be stored at room temperature of 15°C for 24 hours; at room temperature of 19-22°C for 10 hours; at room temperature of 25°C for 6 hours.

It should be noted that in order to prevent breast milk from being stale due to excessive storage time, mothers should mark the time on the bottle where the breast milk is stored. In addition, breast milk will decompose after being stored for a period of time, forming two layers of milk water and milk fat. The color may look a little blue, yellow or brown, which is normal. Before feeding the baby, just shake it gently to mix it well.

The difference between foremilk and hindmilk

1. Different ingredients and functions. Foremilk is mainly used to quench thirst, while hindmilk is mainly used to quench hunger. Both provide necessary nutrients for the healthy growth of children, so they are both very important.

2. Don't squeeze out some breast milk. The human body is an extremely sophisticated "machine" created by nature. The design of each link is determined after thousands of times of beating, so the production of foremilk will definitely not be redundant. Some people think that the nutritional value of foremilk is not as much as that of hindmilk, so they should squeeze out some foremilk, which is absolutely not allowed. It is precisely because foremilk is relatively thin that the baby can solve the problem of thirst. And because the baby drinks foremilk, he will not drink too much hindmilk, causing the baby to consume too much fat.

3. Don't believe breastfeeding rumors. Don't believe those sayings that "let the child alternate between the two breasts, and each time should not exceed fifteen minutes." If this is true, the child will only eat foremilk, so how can the child get enough fat and energy?
