What causes corpus luteum insufficiency? What are the symptoms of corpus luteum insufficiency?

Many women have difficulty getting pregnant due to various reasons. Infertility caused by corpus luteum deficiency is a common one, which endangers women's conception. So, what are the main causes of corpus luteum deficiency? What are the symptoms of women with corpus luteum deficiency?

Causes of corpus luteum deficiency

If women have insufficient FSH secretion during the follicular phase, and the FSH and estradiol levels in the follicular fluid are low, it will lead to insufficient corpus luteum. Experts say that insufficient LH peak during ovulation is also a cause of insufficient corpus luteum in women.

Women's LH secretion during the luteal phase is insufficient or its pulsed secretion is insufficient. Women's endometrial cells have abnormal steroid hormone receptors and are less responsive to hormones secreted by the corpus luteum. Even if the corpus luteum function is normal, endometrial development will be poor.

Many women have habitual miscarriage, which is extremely harmful to women. Luteal insufficiency is a common cause of habitual miscarriage. The maintenance of normal luteal function depends on the improvement of the hypothalamus-pituitary-ovarian gonadal axis function of women. Abnormalities not only in the luteal phase of women, but also in the follicular phase may lead to luteal dysfunction.

Symptoms of luteal insufficiency

1. Menstrual disorders: Patients with luteal insufficiency will experience shortened menstrual cycles (less than 28 days), increased frequency of menstruation, and heavy premenstrual bleeding.

2. Infertility: Women in their childbearing period will find it more difficult to conceive, or they may easily suffer miscarriage if they become pregnant.

3. The endometrium cannot produce normal secretory response, and the endometrial response is unbalanced.

4. Basal body temperature: The day after a woman ovulates, the corpus luteum is formed in the ovaries. The secretion of progesterone by the corpus luteum will cause the body temperature to rise by about 0.6 degrees Celsius, causing the body temperature to fluctuate between high and low phases. The high temperature period lasts about 14 days. However, patients with luteal insufficiency will experience a slower rise in body temperature, or a lower rise, usually less than 0.5°C, and the temperature rise will only last about 9 days.

The dangers of corpus luteum deficiency

Insufficient luteal function can lead to poor follicular development, incomplete luteal formation, and imbalance in the ratio of estrogen and progesterone secreted by the luteal itself. There are quite a few cases of infertility caused by luteal insufficiency, accounting for about 3%-10% of all infertility. Patients with this disease usually do not have any uncomfortable symptoms, but may not ovulate in several menstrual cycles, and sometimes have excessive and frequent menstruation or prolonged menstruation.
