Is snoring hereditary? Intraoral correction of snoring in young children can be improved

Some parents don't know what to do with their children's snoring. Gradually, the children's snoring will become more and more serious. Timely treatment is needed to effectively help children relieve snoring symptoms and completely eliminate snoring. I heard that intraoral correction devices can improve snoring symptoms? Is this true? Let's take a look.

Don’t take children’s snoring lightly, as it may be a warning sign of sleep apnea.

Case: Brother Zhou has been snoring since he was young. If he sleeps on his back, he often suffers from sleep apnea and must sleep on his stomach to fall asleep. Father Zhou is also a snoring patient. When he received treatment for his snoring, he brought his son to see the doctor. After three months of treatment with an intraoral device to rapidly enlarge the upper jaw and advance the lower jaw, Brother Zhou was able to sleep through the night like a normal person.

Dr. Zou Mengzhen of the Snoring Kingdom Dental Clinic said that the cause of sleep apnea in children is often congenital. In addition to allergic rhinitis, it is also possible to inherit the skull shape and airway stenosis. In addition, the modern refined diet has caused insufficient development of the jawbone space. In addition, the PM2.5 air pollution in today's living environment is serious, resulting in nasal congestion, causing patients to often breathe through their mouths, which further aggravates problems such as underdeveloped upper jaw or chin.

For the treatment of sleep apnea in children, in addition to routine sleep examinations, it is recommended to seek examinations from otolaryngologists and dentists. If the tonsils or adenoids are too large, surgical removal should be considered. In addition, it is recommended that a dentist check whether cranial correction treatment is needed to achieve a more complete improvement.

The purpose of cranial correction is to expand the narrow maxillary dental arch, which in turn expands the volume of the sinuses, making nasal breathing smoother. After the maxillary arch is enlarged, the sinuses and maxillary dental arch are also enlarged, which indirectly opens the mandibular dental arch. The increase in oral volume not only makes the teeth more evenly arranged and no longer compresses the tongue, but recent studies abroad have found that rapid palate enlargement treatment can indeed expand the volume of the upper airway and improve sleep apnea. Therefore, at the World Sleep Medicine Conference held in Seoul in March 2015, cranial correction for children and adolescents was one of the focuses of today's treatment of snoring and sleep apnea in children.

Skull correction uses intraoral devices to replace surgery that involves skin and flesh breaking. The intraoral device that assists in the expansion of the upper jaw is installed with a screw designed in the middle of the position of the left and right molars on the upper jaw. As long as the screw is rotated one notch in the morning and evening, a pulling force can be generated to open the skull bone sutures and stretch the hard palate skull. The intraoral device cannot be seen from the outside of the face and must be worn continuously once it is attached. As long as you follow the doctor's instructions and rotate the screw appropriately, the skull can be expanded rapidly in about 2 to 3 weeks. Generally, around the second week, the gap between the upper front teeth will become larger, and around the third week, you can feel that the breathing resistance of the nose has decreased. During the treatment, the patient is also trained to breathe through the nose, inhaling steam in the morning and evening to accelerate the unclogged nasal cavity.

Dr. Zou Mengzhen reminds that children with severe sleep apnea usually have severe mandibular retraction and need to be fitted with an intraoral device to move the chin forward. It is best to arrange this during the winter and summer holidays. Wearing the device for more than 16 hours a day will move the chin forward 1 to 2 mm in about a month.

"Snoring is hereditary." Parents with snoring problems should also take their children to see a doctor to check whether they have snoring, sleep apnea, uneven teeth, obesity and other problems. Early detection and early treatment are recommended.
