Causes of bronchitis in children

Because of bacterial infection: Your child may get a secondary bacterial infection, which may lead to bronchitis, however this is rare. Your child may get an infection from bacteria such as Mycoplasma, Chlamydia pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Streptococcus pneumoniae, etc.
Other possible causes: Your child may have bronchitis for other reasons, such as fungal infections, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and allergies. In addition, there is a type of bronchitis called plastic bronchitis, in which fluid accumulates in the bronchi, blocking air flow.

What to do with bronchitis in children

Increase fluid intake: Coughing and fever can cause your child to become dehydrated, so have your child drink plenty of fluids. This can help thin the mucus so it's easier to eliminate.
Cool-mist humidifiers: If your child has trouble breathing while sleeping or playing, use a cool-mist humidifier to moisten the air and make it easier for your child to breathe. However, it is important to clean the humidifier regularly to prevent the spread of germs.
Rub your child's chest: You can use peppermint, eucalyptus, or camphor to rub your child's chest. It warms the chest and helps with persistent dry coughs. The friction increases blood flow to the chest and dilates the bronchi.
Take an Epsom salt bath: Epsom salt baths can soothe constricted bronchial tubes and help toxins flow out of the body. Mix 2 cups of Epsom salts in bath water and let your child soak for 30 minutes. Encourage him to inhale the steam for best results.

What to eat for children with bronchitis

Drink Cranberry Juice: Cranberry juice is full of vitamin C and is an immune booster. It can boost your child's immune system and fight infection. You can mix it with a little lemon water or applesauce to make it more palatable.
Take a spoonful of honey: Honey has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. It can soothe the inflammation of the respiratory lining and reduce your child's cough. You can let your child drink honey water or give him 1 spoonful. If your child is less than 1 year old, do not give him honey.
Drinkable lemon water: Lemons contain antioxidants and are high in vitamin C, which can improve immunity. Boil some lemon slices in water, let it sit for 10 minutes and then filter it. You can add some honey to make it more delicious.
