What should I do if my child has ADHD? ADHD coping methods

ADHD is a common disease that many children suffer from, which requires us to pay more attention to it. So, what should we do if our children have ADHD?

What is ADHD

The scientific name of ADHD is also called mild brain injury syndrome, which is a disorder of abnormal behavior in children. Generally, children develop the disease in childhood and may continue to suffer from it into adulthood, but the symptoms are most obvious in school-age children. According to surveys, about 5% to 10% of school-age children suffer from this disease, with a male-to-female ratio of five to one. Obviously, boys are much more likely to suffer from the disease than girls. Among them, about 65% to 80% of the children with the disease show difficulty in learning. The main symptoms of the disease are distraction, lack of consciousness and self-control, and difficulty in learning.

What to do if your child has ADHD

1. Encourage children more, cultivate their self-esteem and self-confidence, and make them interested in learning and life. This is very beneficial for children with mild ADHD and can help them return to normal as soon as possible.

2. Parents should change their education methods. They should neither be too strict or too indulgent with their children, as these will lead to or aggravate the symptoms of ADHD in children. "Reducing intervention" and "creating a free atmosphere" are very effective in preventing and treating ADHD.

3. Parents should urge their children to eat and sleep on time and get enough sleep. They should not indulge their children's interests and let them watch computer or TV until late at night, which will affect their sleep.

4. Avoid or do not let your children eat high-calorie, greasy foods, such as fried chicken legs, French fries, grilled lamb skewers, spicy strips, etc. Eating too much of these foods will induce children's ADHD.

5. Eat less lead-containing foods. Because lead can cause changes in children's visual movement, memory perception, image thinking, behavior, etc., and cause hyperactivity, children with ADHD should eat less lead-containing preserved eggs, shellfish and other foods.

6. Teachers in school should actively cooperate with parents and try to arrange these children to sit in the front row during class. Teachers should talk to them more to reduce their study pressure. If children make progress in concentrating their attention, they should be praised and encouraged in time to facilitate reinforcement.

There is a difference between real and fake ADHD

Attention

Although naughty babies are curious and active, when they encounter something new that interests them, they will not only listen, watch, and do it attentively, but also hate being disturbed by others. Children with ADHD have almost no attention span, and they are absent-minded and unable to finish whatever they play.

Emotional control

Even if naughty babies are sometimes upset, they are still relatively stable and can control their emotions afterwards. Children with ADHD are prone to losing control of their emotions, being impulsive, easily excited, crying, impulsive and lacking control, and are prone to quarreling with others.

Movement Development

Naughty babies are flexible and free when they move quickly, repeatedly and in rotation. Children with ADHD generally have sensory integration disorders. Children with ADHD are clumsy, slow to react, inflexible and uncoordinated.

Group performance

Naughty babies will blend into the group and actively participate in group activities. Generally speaking, they are very obedient in front of their parents. Children with ADHD are not sociable in group activities. They are stubborn, disobedient, rash and rude in front of their parents. Some children avoid difficulties and become passive and withdrawn.

Behavioral activities

Naughty babies have clearer thinking, their actions are purposeful, and they have plans and arrangements. Children with ADHD are purposeless in everything they do, their actions are often impulsive, chaotic, and have a beginning but no end.

Education methods for children with ADHD

1. Cultivate the self-esteem and self-confidence of children with ADHD

For such children, we should patiently and repeatedly educate and help them, cultivate their self-esteem and self-confidence, eliminate their nervousness, and help them improve their self-control. When conditions permit, we should strive for the cooperation of doctors, parents, and teachers to jointly carry out good education.

2. Strengthen the attention of children with ADHD

Children with ADHD cannot concentrate, so we need to find ways to cultivate their attention. Parents can tell them some interesting stories and jokes every day to help them concentrate and listen to you attentively. It may not be smooth at the beginning, but it is a process. If you can extend the time a little bit every day, it means you are successful. If you persist for a long time, you will achieve unexpected results. Then they will gradually improve in concentration. At this time, parents should also encourage and reward their children in time to make them feel very accomplished.

3. Don’t be too strict with children with ADHD

First of all, parents should understand the characteristics of ADHD and should not be as strict with their children as they are with normal children. It is enough to just require their hyperactive behavior to be controlled within a range that is not too excessive. The requirements should not be too demanding.

4. Make use of the extra energy of children with ADHD

Children with ADHD are active and energetic, so we guide them to make full use of their excess energy. Parents can let them do things within their ability, such as wiping the table, washing vegetables, sweeping the floor, etc., so that they can release their excess energy. As a father, you can take your son to play football or ball to consume energy.

5. Encourage your children more and reduce their stress

Give your child appropriate encouragement and affirmation so that he can learn to persevere. Don't call him a "stupid kid" just because he can't count or play the piano. Don't put pressure on your child and let him grow up easily.
