What is Neck Drowning and How to Prevent It

Many novice parents will find that there is sometimes a circle of red marks on the baby’s neck. They don’t know how it came about and think it is eczema. The baby feels pain and itchiness, and sometimes the skin is scratched. It is very distressing to see. In fact, this is commonly known as drowned neck. What should you do if the neck is drowned? Can you use talcum powder? Parents, let’s learn about it.

What is drowned neck

The redness and rottenness of the baby's skin folds is commonly known as "drenched neck", which generally refers to the neck area. Redness and rottenness of the wrinkles is a common skin problem for babies aged 0 to 2 years old, mainly caused by various external stimuli to the baby's skin. The clinical manifestations are symptoms such as redness, rottenness, and pain in the wrinkles. It usually occurs in hot and humid weather such as summer, and is common in fat babies.

How to prevent your baby from drowning his neck

1. Pay attention to the baby's hygiene at ordinary times. Avoid milk flowing down the baby's neck when feeding the baby. If milk or rice soup accidentally flows down the baby's neck, the mother should help the baby wipe it clean as soon as possible.

2. Bathe your baby frequently and use talcum powder to keep the skin clean.

3. For babies who drool a lot, mothers should prepare pure cotton, breathable bibs and let the baby wear them when feeding, drinking water, or drooling.

4. There will usually be sweat in the wrinkles of the baby's neck. To prevent damage to the baby's delicate skin, you can apply a warm towel to the baby's neck. Apply hot compress for about 20 minutes each time, and do it 3-5 times a day. After the hot compress, wipe it dry with a dry cloth.

5. Keep the indoor temperature and humidity appropriate. If the temperature is too high, the baby will sweat easily, and if the humidity is too high, the room will be too humid, which will also have an adverse effect on the baby's skin.

6. Let your baby's neck get more sun exposure. You can hold your baby under not very strong sunlight, let the baby's head tilt back, expose his neck to the sun, and keep it dry.

Can comfrey oil be used to soak the neck?

It can be used, but don't abuse it. If the baby's neck is soaked, especially if the skin has been broken, you can apply a proper amount of lithospermum oil. Lithospermum oil can treat burns from water or fire, frostbite ulcers, and long-term wounds. It can prevent and treat baby diaper rash, skin ulcers, eczema, cool blood, promote blood circulation, detoxify and clear rashes. Note that you can buy lithospermum oil products specifically for babies here, or buy lithospermum at the pharmacy. The ratio of lithospermum to oil is 1:3. You can use sesame oil, sesame oil or olive oil. Soak the lithospermum in oil for 1 hour, then steam it in a sealed bowl for 1-2 hours. After steaming, let it cool, and apply lithospermum oil to the folds of the neck with a cotton swab.

Precautions for neck skin ulcer

1. Keep your skin clean and dry

When bathing your baby, use warm water and non-alkaline bath products to clean the baby's body. Pay special attention to cleaning the wrinkles of the skin. When bathing, the bath products must be rinsed off. After washing, wipe the moisture off the baby's body and apply non-oily moisturizer to avoid hindering the normal breathing of the skin. The baby's hair should also be washed every day. If the baby has seborrheic dermatitis, washing the head carefully can remove the scab. If the scab has hardened and stuck to the head, you can first apply olive oil to the affected area and then wash it after a while.

2. Avoid external stimulation

Parents should always pay attention to the changes in temperature and humidity around their baby, especially to avoid exposing the baby's skin to cold wind or strong sunlight. In summer, after the baby sweats during exercise, you should wipe off the sweat carefully for him; when it is cold and dry, you should apply anti-allergic non-oily moisturizer to the baby. In addition to paying attention to weather changes, parents should not let the baby wear clothes that are easy to irritate the skin, such as wool, silk, nylon, etc.

3. Be careful about what you eat

Let your baby eat less animal protein, such as milk and eggs, under the supervision of a doctor or nutritionist. It is best not to prohibit certain foods without clear evidence. It is not recommended to prevent your baby from getting the proper nutrition in order to avoid allergies. Pay attention to improving your baby's body immunity. You can try giving your baby some colostrum, such as Life Sunshine Colostrum, which is rich in high-quality protein, vitamins, minerals and other nutrients, and is also rich in active immunoglobulins, which can inhibit the reproduction of bacteria.

4. Shorten your nails

Parents should regularly trim their baby's nails to reduce the chance of scratching.
