Why do babies not sleep at night? How to care for babies?

New parents deeply understand how difficult it is to take care of a child. Children are young and weak in physical fitness. It is common for newborn babies not to sleep at night. It is already very hard to take care of the child during the day, and they cannot sleep at night. So why do babies not sleep at night? How to take care of babies?

Reasons why babies don't sleep at night

1. Sleeping conditions: Check if the sleeping conditions are bad. The baby is not sleeping comfortably, the quilt is too many, the diaper is wet or the diaper is too tight, etc., which will make the baby unable to sleep at night.

2. Calcium deficiency: If the baby is calcium deficient, it will cause unstable sleep. Parents should supplement the baby with calcium in time.

3. Hungry: If the baby is not full, of course he will cry non-stop. For babies, filling their stomachs is the most important thing.

4. Sickness: If the baby has any physical abnormality or is sick, he will refuse to sleep. Parents should pay attention to this situation. Once any abnormality is found, they should go to the hospital to seek help from a doctor.

5. Sleeping too much during the day: This is also one of the culprits that affect the baby’s sleep quality at night, so parents can play with the baby appropriately during the day, so that the baby can sleep peacefully at night.

How to care for babies

1. Clean your mouth

When the fetus is delivered, the mucus and amniotic fluid in the oropharynx should be quickly cleared to avoid accidental aspiration, which may cause aspiration pneumonia. However, do not scrub the mouth, as the oral mucosa of the newborn is thin and tender and easily damaged. If "thrush" occurs, which is a white film with spots and flakes on the oral mucosa, you can gently apply nystatin solution.

2. Insulation

After birth, the newborn should be wiped dry and wrapped in a clean and warm cotton blanket. The room temperature should not be lower than 23℃. The newborn's body temperature should be maintained at 36-37℃. The body temperature should be measured every 4 hours on the first day after birth. When the body temperature is stable at around 36.5℃, it can be changed to every 6-12 hours. If the body temperature is lower than 36℃ or higher than 38℃, the cause should be found and handled.

3. Eye drops

Use 0.5% neomycin or 0.25% chloramphenicol eye drops immediately after birth to prevent neonatal ophthalmia. If there is a lot of eye secretion, wipe it clean with normal saline or 2% boric acid cotton balls before applying eye drops.

4. Body Position

Except when the mother holds the baby to feed, the newborn baby should rest in bed all day. The baby should be guaranteed to have enough sleep time, more than 20 hours a day. It is best to sleep on the side, especially on the right side after feeding. Usually, the baby should sleep on the left side. Changing the body position frequently can prevent the head from tilting when sleeping. Lying on the back is not safe. This position can cause suffocation, such as when the milk is spilled. It is not necessary to use a pillow. If a pillow is used, the height of the pillow should be roughly the same as the width of the shoulders. Do not use a hard pillow to correct the head shape.

5. Pay attention to the living environment

There are two factors that need to be paid special attention to in the living environment: the first is ventilation. The living environment of newborns requires proper ventilation and airflow, while avoiding the through-drafts of traditional houses facing south and north; the second is noise. High-decibel and harsh noises should be isolated to avoid damage to the baby's hearing organs.

What is the normal temperature for babies?

1. The body temperature is usually measured at three locations, namely the mouth, armpits and anus. The normal body temperature is between 36.5℃ and 37.5℃ at the anus; between 36.2℃ and 37.3℃ at the mouth; and between 35.9℃ and 37.2℃ at the armpit. After measurement, any temperature that exceeds the normal range by more than 0.5℃ is considered a fever.

2. People often say that it is normal for babies under one year old to have a body temperature below 37.5℃. The reason is that the center of the baby's brain that controls body temperature regulation is not yet mature, that is, the ability to control body temperature is not strong enough, causing the baby's body temperature to be affected by the ambient temperature. In hot weather or if the baby is wrapped too much, the body temperature will rise slightly, but it should not exceed 37.5℃. In cold weather or in a low-temperature air-conditioned room, the body temperature can drop to 36℃ or lower.

3. In the hot summer, the temperature is very high, and the baby's ability to regulate body temperature is poor. When the mother holds the baby, the heat is not easy to dissipate, causing the body temperature to rise. However, this fever usually does not last too long. Put the baby in a cool place, fan it slightly, give the baby some cool fruit juice, or give the baby a warm bath, and the body temperature will return to normal after a few hours. In winter, if the indoor temperature is too high and the baby is wrapped too much, the baby's body temperature will also rise.

What to do if your baby has eczema

1. First of all, it is recommended to go to a regular hospital and choose appropriate drug treatment according to the condition of the skin lesions under the guidance of a doctor.

2. Apply special milk eczema cream under the guidance of a doctor. Many eczema medicines contain hormones. They may improve at the beginning, but will relapse soon. Therefore, long-term use is not recommended, otherwise the skin will develop hormone dependence.

3. Depending on the severity of the situation, if it is caused simply by breastfeeding, you may stop feeding the baby milk for a period of time, or dilute the milk powder before drinking; do not put any or a small amount of salt in the baby's food to prevent the child from accumulating too much fluid in the body and suffering from eczema.

4. Try to find the cause and eliminate it, pay attention to adjusting the diet. Both adults and children should avoid spicy and stimulating foods, and avoid eating items that are easy to cause allergies, such as alcohol. Seafood and shellfish should be banned. It is better to eat a light diet; try to reduce adverse external stimuli, such as scratching with hands, external soap, hot water washing, etc.; Clothing should be loose, light and soft, and avoid wearing wool products or nylon fabrics.

5. Avoid using hormones to treat infant eczema. If there is no exudation, use Chinese medicine for external washing. Eczema is an allergy, and allergic constitution can be inherited. Children are in the developmental stage. If the disease recurs for a long time, you can check the allergens as a reference to help children avoid some common allergic factors.

6. Eczema is an allergic reaction caused by being allergic to something. If a baby has eczema, the first thing to do is to observe whether he is allergic to food, such as milk. The baby's skin is relatively tender and has poor resistance. The local area must be kept clean to avoid infection. If water seeps and scabs form, you should gently apply vegetable oil.

7. Children should avoid stimulation from alkaline soaps, cosmetics or perfumes. Do not receive BCG or other vaccinations during an outbreak. Avoid contact with patients with herpes simplex (commonly known as "fever sores") to prevent herpetic eczema.
