Top 10 common worries for expectant mothers

It is said that "Raising a child for a hundred years means worrying for ninety-nine years". I mean the worrying for a hundred years is true. It should be calculated from the ten months of pregnancy. During the whole pregnancy, there are new situations almost every month, especially for new mothers. They face great changes both physically and mentally, which catches them off guard. It is like "getting fresh and getting gold".

Top 10 common worries for expectant mothers

Worry 1: Is it easy to have miscarriage in the first three months?

The early stages of pregnancy are the most sensitive and vulnerable. As the embryo implantation is still in an unstable stage, miscarriage is prone to occur. Expectant mothers feel like they are walking on thin ice every step they take, worrying that big movements will hurt the baby, sleeping sideways will crush the baby, eating the wrong things will cause miscarriage, and being sick and taking medicine will affect the baby... In fact, these concerns all come from a lack of security. Instead of worrying, mothers are advised to read more related books, improve their knowledge of pregnancy and reduce anxiety.

Trouble 2: One person needs to eat the amount for two people?

The previous generation generally believed that the more you eat when you are pregnant, the better. One person should eat the amount for two people to promote the growth of the baby. However, in the early stages of pregnancy, many mothers are vomiting almost every morning, noon and night. They vomit what they eat very quickly, so they start to worry about whether the baby has taken in enough nutrition. In addition, you need to take a variety of supplements from the beginning of pregnancy, such as folic acid, vitamins, DHA, etc., to help the baby's brain and organs develop. I still remember that when I started to get pregnant, I didn't know anything. I bought a lot of supplements and took 5 or 6 big pills every day. I wanted to vomit even if I didn't vomit. In fact, there are many supplements designed for pregnant women on the market. Taking 1 to 2 pills can provide everything a pregnant woman needs.

Trouble 3: Weight control for pregnant mothers

Generally speaking, the amount of weight gain during pregnancy depends on the body mass index (BMI) before pregnancy, and each pregnancy has a different growth rate. For example, starting from the fourth month of pregnancy, the average weight gain is about 0.5 kg per week. My appetite was quite good throughout the pregnancy. At 29 weeks, I had gained 13 kg, not counting the rapid weight gain period in the last three months. Just hearing the numbers is shocking. Both the government and private doctors have advised me to control my weight, but in fact, since the third month of pregnancy, I have insisted on exercising. I really can't imagine what will happen if I don't even exercise. So, being a pregnant mother is not easy at all. It's not good to be too light or too heavy.

Trouble 4: More or less fetal movement

Every pregnant mother will experience the moment of fetal movement, feeling both excited and surprised! Then I look forward to the movement of my baby every day. My baby is a gentle type, he doesn’t move much, and he is very gentle to me. Most of the time, he just kicks me gently, which makes me itchy. I wonder what he is doing all day long. I get worried when I can’t feel him moving, worrying that his heartbeat will stop. But sometimes knowing that he is doing somersaults is another kind of worry, afraid that he will play too crazy and get entangled with the umbilical cord... Well, we are just too nervous about the baby's every move, but at the same time, the baby will also be affected by our mood and react. So, relax, mothers.

Trouble 5: Baby growth rate

From the second trimester, the baby's organs begin to grow and mature. After taking a structural ultrasound, you will know whether the baby's body parts have grown at the expected speed. In the late pregnancy, basically every prenatal check-up, the doctor will also monitor the baby's weight and size. I have to admire these advanced instruments that can always accurately measure the baby's growth rate (of course, I paid so much money), but it is also because of these numbers that I am confused. At one time, I said that the baby's legs are one week shorter than normal, but the head is one week bigger. Then, a month later, the feet are one week longer than normal, which means they are two weeks behind? Now it is 31 weeks, and the feet and belly are one week smaller than normal... I can't help but marvel at these numbers... But I haven't done anything, and my appetite and food are the same as before. It's really confusing.

Trouble 6: Gestational diabetes?

It is common sense that women love desserts, right? Pregnant women love sweets even more, because during pregnancy, their mouths are bland for a long time, and they cannot eat this or that. It is natural that they want to eat something sweet to make them feel better. Some studies have shown that the baby will also be happier! This is when the problem comes. Pregnant women need to undergo an oral glucose tolerance test between 24 and 28 weeks of pregnancy, mainly to test for gestational diabetes. Many mothers who did not have diabetes before were diagnosed with gestational diabetes when they first discovered their diabetes status during pregnancy. Gestational diabetes has many effects on the fetus, such as macrosomia, polyhydramnios, and neonatal jaundice. Poor control may even cause higher morbidity and mortality rates for mothers and babies. Therefore, desserts can be eaten, but remember to eat them in moderation. No matter what food, it is not advisable to eat too much.

Trouble 7: The baby head hasn’t turned yet?

Generally, at 35 weeks, the fetus' head will be facing downwards, preparing to leave the mother's body. The position of the fetus in the uterus before birth is very important, which will determine whether the pregnant mother will have a normal delivery or a difficult delivery. Normally, the fetus is immersed in the amniotic fluid, and because of the top-heavy relationship, it will naturally be in a head-down position, which is the most smooth during delivery. As long as the fetus is not "head-down", it is a malposition. Fetuses with malpositions will most likely be delivered by caesarean section, but it will not cause health hazards to the mother or fetus.

Worry 8: Is there a leak? I am obsessed with buying too much and haven’t finished buying.

From the beginning of pregnancy, you are excited to look around for baby products, to the later stages of pregnancy when you realize that time is not enough. Countless prenatal checkups, hospital lectures, and prenatal exercise classes are still waiting for you. You will realize: "Oh... it's already xx weeks, but I haven't bought a baby bed, etc." The shopping list you originally wrote is still mostly unfinished, but your belly has already grown so big that it's unbearable. At this time, I really don't know whether to laugh at myself or cry... Hahahaha, keep working hard, getting pregnant is a lifelong thing!

Worry 9: Will level 10 pain make me unable to give birth?

If you choose natural childbirth, I believe that "level 10 pain" will be your biggest fear. As fearful of pain as I am, I actually decided to have a natural childbirth right from the start. Firstly, I don't have the money to have a private surgery, and secondly, I still believe that natural childbirth is best for the baby (this is just my personal opinion). Although I am afraid of pain, I still hope that by experiencing this pain, I can feel the preciousness of life and the unforgettable nature of the entire life process.

Worry 10: Worrying about taking care of the baby

In the end, I still feel like I am my parents' baby. I believe that I cannot accept the fact of being a mother until I hold my child in my arms. I always think that I am a Buddhist mother, so I can't help but doubt my ability to take care of my baby. But I believe that practice makes perfect, and things will work out. Besides, there is so much information and reference now, and it won't be difficult for me if I am willing to do it! What's more, I believe that every mother has gone through this journey, so don't be afraid, let's encourage each other.
