Will baby's birthmarks disappear automatically? Different birthmarks disappear in different ways

Many people have birthmarks. Some birthmarks will gradually fade away as they age, while others will always be there. So, will baby birthmarks disappear automatically?

Different types of birthmarks disappear

(1) Blue birthmark

Most babies have blue-black, blue-gray or cyan birthmarks on their backs, waists, and buttocks after they are born. Some are very large and some are numerous. This birthmark has nothing to do with nervous system diseases. It is the result of the accumulation of pigment cells during the fetal period. It is the most common birthmark and has no effect on the body. It gradually fades with age and into childhood. Generally, no treatment is required.

(2) Red birthmark

About 50% of babies are born with a light red birthmark, which is often located on the forehead between the eyebrows or on the back of the neck. It is caused by local vascular dilation. When the baby cries or the ambient temperature changes, the color may deepen. Medically, it is called "plaque hemangioma". As the child grows older, the light red birthmark will gradually disappear and no treatment is required.

(3) Strawberry spots

Strawberry nevus, also known as vascular nevus, is a bright red or dark red swelling that protrudes from the skin surface with clear boundaries. It is visible at birth or in the first two months. After a period of growth, the size of the nevus will be fixed (about 8 months), and most of them will disappear before the age of 10. Those that do not disappear need treatment.

(4) Permanent erythema

For example, port-wine nevus, also known as flame nevus, is a reddish-purple spot. It is usually visible at birth. This spot is flat and will not turn white with pressure or disappear naturally. It needs to be removed by laser or surgery in the future.

(5) Black birthmark

Black birthmarks are caused by melanin deposition. Some birthmarks have hair growing on them at birth. A few may become malignant and are difficult to disappear on their own. If a black birthmark expands rapidly, you should go to the hospital for examination in time.

(6) Brown birthmark

This kind of spots can be seen after birth, just like adding milk to coffee, called "cafe au lait spots". Sometimes 1-2 such spots can be seen on healthy babies, which is normal physiological imagination. However, if there are 6 or more coffee spots with a diameter of more than 1 cm, the spots are very small and there are many of them, like freckles, it may be neurofibromatosis, and you should see a doctor for examination in time.

How are birthmarks formed?

Birthmarks are abnormal proliferations of skin tissue during development, with abnormal shapes and colors appearing on the skin surface. They are mainly caused by the serious lack of trace elements such as zinc, copper, calcium, magnesium, and phenylalanine and tyrosine in human serum, which affect the biochemical process of pigment synthesis, leading to an abnormal increase in pigment cells, which gradually spread to the epidermis through nerve conduction to form plaques; however, birthmarks with neat edges spread more slowly.

The most common birthmarks for babies are stork bites on the back of the neck and eyelids. They are caused by the expansion of blood vessels and will gradually disappear within the first year. About 10% of newborns will have strawberry birthmarks in the first 4 weeks - a raised, red, dot-shaped birthmark, which usually disappears within two years. If the birthmark still does not disappear after 2 years, it can be removed by laser. But it must be done in a regular hospital and under the advice of a doctor. About 2‰ of newborns will have port wine marks, which are flat red birthmarks that generally do not fade.

The impact of birthmarks on babies

1. The impact of birthmarks on baby's health

Many birthmarks only affect the appearance of children in the early stage, but if they are ignored, they will gradually erode other tissues and organs. For example, among red birthmarks, the port wine stain will develop from light pink to dark purple patches and obvious nodules from birth to 30 years old; after the age of 40, the patient's red birthmark will become thicker, darker in color, and develop into progressive nodules. For another example, among black birthmarks, the black hairy nevus, if not removed in the early stage, is likely to develop into animal skin-like, and will greatly increase the chance of cancerous transformation.

2. The impact of birthmarks on the baby's appearance

No matter what kind of birthmark it is, as long as it grows in exposed places such as the face, arms, and legs, it will cause certain damage to the appearance of the child. Of course, the problem of damaging beauty may not be the most concerned issue for parents and children, but in today's highly competitive society, appearance does play a more important role in employment, self-presentation, marriage and other opportunities. Therefore, for long-term considerations, if the birthmark grows in an obvious place, it is best to remove it in time.

3. The impact of birthmarks on the baby's psychology

As babies grow older, they will pay more and more attention to their image in other people's minds. If the birthmark grows in a conspicuous place, it is easy to be discriminated against by other children, which will cause the baby with the birthmark to have an inferiority complex. Data from the China Center for Disease Control and Prevention also proves this inference: the proportion of school-age children with birthmarks on exposed parts such as the face, neck, and arms that suffer from depression and autism is as high as 78.3%. Therefore, as parents of babies with birthmarks, you should pay great attention to your child's mental health.

How to prevent baby birthmarks

Proper skin care

Makeup is an essential element of modern women's daily life, but you should be careful when choosing makeup products. Since cosmetics contain a lot of metals, the skin will be more exposed to ultraviolet rays, and the pigments and harmful substances in the cosmetics will penetrate the skin, causing pigment accumulation and birthmarks. Therefore, if it is not necessary, it is better to give up heavy makeup. When choosing makeup products, you must pay attention to the ingredients to reduce irritation to the skin. Doing this can prevent baby birthmarks to a certain extent.

Say no to foods with coloring, and fall in love with light food

The colorful delicacies are indeed hard to resist, but these foods contain more pigments, which are not helpful for preventing baby birthmarks, but will have the opposite effect. Therefore, we should pay attention to our daily diet. To prevent baby birthmarks, we should eat less foods that are easy to make melanin grow, such as mango, pumpkin, carrot, celery, papaya, etc. On the contrary, milk, vitamin C capsules, soy milk, almonds, etc. are very effective whitening foods for preventing baby birthmarks. So if you want to prevent baby birthmarks, you should eat more light foods!

Pay attention to sun protection

Especially in summer, sun protection is a necessary measure for expectant mothers to prevent birthmarks on their babies. Sun exposure can increase the activity of melanin, causing an increase in the melanin content in the basal layer of the epidermis, which can cause birthmarks on babies.

Protect against all kinds of ionizing radiation

Including various display screens, various fluorescent lamps, X-ray machines, ultraviolet irradiators, etc. These adverse stimuli can produce similar consequences to strong sunlight exposure, and even cause greater damage than sunlight exposure, which is an important factor in preventing baby birthmarks.

Fruits and vegetables

Eating more fresh fruits and vegetables, such as tomatoes, cucumbers, cherries, peaches, etc., is also beneficial for preventing baby birthmarks.
