What kind of parent are you when you send your child to kindergarten for the first time?

When the baby grows up and reaches the age to go to kindergarten, it is the biggest headache for mothers. They are reluctant to leave their children, afraid that they will be bullied in kindergarten, and afraid that something will happen when they are not around. So what kind of parent are you when you send your child to kindergarten for the first time?

How to choose a kindergarten

The lottery for public kindergartens in various counties and cities is in full swing. Parents are eagerly looking forward to being able to draw a public kindergarten with cheap tuition fees, but it is a fact that the proportion of places in public kindergartens is small. It is recommended that parents look for private kindergartens at the same time and choose a suitable school for their children as soon as possible.

However, among all kinds of kindergartens, how can we choose carefully? Is there any direct and accurate way?

Q: What is the first thing to pay attention to when choosing a kindergarten?

A: When parents choose a kindergarten, the first thing they need to do is to confirm whether the kindergarten is registered by the government. According to statistics from the Ministry of Education's National Education Department and the Statistics Bureau, the number of cram schools has grown by 1,200 in the past five years, but the number of kindergartens has decreased by 301. The Jingjuan Foundation held a press conference to discuss this phenomenon and asked, "Where do all the children go to school?" It also issued a report showing that the proportion of cram school operators in Taipei City and New Taipei City operating kindergartens illegally is as high as 60%! Parents must be careful not to let their children attend schools that are on the edge of the law!

Q: What exactly should you “look” at when observing the kindergarten environment?

A: When children go to kindergarten, safety comes first! When parents visit a kindergarten to determine whether it is safe, they can judge by the "teacher-student ratio", "classroom floors" and "indoor and outdoor activity space size". According to the Kindergarten Education Act, the upper limit of the teacher-student ratio is 1:15, and the ideal is 1:8, which means that one teacher can take care of a maximum of 15 students. If the ratio exceeds this, it means that the teacher is overloaded and some students may be neglected.

For children aged 4-6, the ideal classroom floor is 1-2 floors, with a maximum of 3 floors. It is not safe if it is too high or located underground. The ideal indoor activity space for each child should be 1.5-2 square meters, and the outdoor activity space should be 2-4 square meters, which is roughly equivalent to the range of 2-4 standard double beds.

Q: How do I know if the kindergarten’s teaching style and philosophy are suitable for my child?

A: To find out whether the style of the kindergarten is suitable for your child, you can search online, ask friends or talk directly with the teacher to get relevant information. When visiting the kindergarten, you can also ask the teacher for the course schedule, see the course content, or directly watch the interaction between teachers and students. Many kindergartens that focus on teaching in American English also ask about the background of the "foreign teachers" to ensure the quality of your child's learning and personal safety!

Kindergarten admission interval table

Many people in kindergarten clubs often ask this question: My child was born in XX year, which class should he enroll in?

I have calculated this problem by hand before, but I don’t know where the paper went, so I just use my PM spirit to organize this table.

However, please note that the Ministry of Education calculates the academic year by 9/1 of the year as the start of the new semester. Kindergartens use the school's opening date as the start date. Non-profit and private kindergartens mostly start on 8/1, so don't make the mistake.

How to see it?

After it was published in the community, many people couldn’t understand it. Let me teach you!

Left half: The start and end dates of the birthday range for the new graduates. If your birthday is 2/18/2016, you are in the beginning of the monkey year, and you will be in the nursery class in the 2018 school year. If your birthday is 10/13/2016, you are in the end of the monkey year, and you will be in the nursery class in the 2019 school year.

The upper part is the academic year, with a new semester starting in August or September of that year.

This explanation should make sense, right?

For comparison, my son Atuan graduated from kindergarten in 2020 and is about to go to elementary school!

After I finished sorting it out, I found that I could also calculate the approximate age and class of children who have not yet been reincarnated. Is this a pleasant surprise?

Kindergarten is about to start, what kind of parent will you be?

1. Eighteen-phase send-off type

On the first day, the children will inevitably cry and the parents will not be able to move. Even if the teacher has already hinted, "Mom, you can go first," the parents will still stand there stupidly, not because they forgot the way home, but because they really can't bear to let their son go (the highest record is that one parent had to stand for an hour every day after sending his son to school for a whole month before going home), (the teacher's inner OS: Who has separation anxiety?)

2. Drive-thru

Pack up all the things and the child and hand them over to the teacher. Tell the child, "Mom will pick you up after class, bye," and leave the scene immediately (so that the child does not have time to cry and be reluctant to leave)

3. To make friends

After arriving, I started chatting with the parents next door: "Which class are you in?", "You are so tall"... (The teacher's inner thoughts: The children inside are all crying, can we go outside the classroom to chat?)

4. Very gossipy

How old is the teacher this year? Is he married? Can you give me a Facebook message? (The teacher's inner thoughts: I'm here to work, not to have a blind date)

5. Sneaky

Because I was afraid that the child would cry and I was worried, I hid in the corner and watched silently for a long time.

(Teacher’s inner thoughts: Do I need to put camouflage on my face to avoid being discovered?)

6. The type who takes photos of everything

Baby's first day at school needs to be commemorated with photos of everything. First time entering the classroom/first time eating snacks/first time going to the bathroom/first time playing with classmates/first time sliding down the slide (the teacher's inner thoughts: Have I taken enough photos?)

7. The mumbling type

Three days before school starts, I have been telling them: listen to the teacher when you go to school / eat snacks well / don’t fight with classmates / tell the teacher when you go to the bathroom… After telling the kids, I tell the teacher (the teacher’s inner thoughts: spare me)

8. Can’t figure out the situation

On the first day of school, you took your child and said you wanted to go to school, but you didn’t even come to register? ! ! !

(Teacher’s inner thoughts: Did you know that we finished drawing lots in May?)

9. Indifferent

On the first day of school, when I brought my child to school, I put all my things on the teacher. I didn’t even look at the teacher from beginning to end. I only talked to the child and ignored the teacher (the teacher’s inner OS: Do you think I’m a waiter now? Do I need to say welcome to you?)

10. Thank God type

I walked into the classroom with a joyful mood, and said to the teacher with a smile that could not be hidden, "Everything is troublesome to the teacher", and the moment I left the child and walked out the door, I really ran out in a spinning jump (the teacher's inner OS: Congratulations to the mother for regaining her freedom, she must have been looking forward to this day for a long time)

I wish you all a happy school life and make good friends quickly.
