There are several ways to give birth

The most common delivery methods are natural delivery, cesarean section and painless delivery. In foreign countries, water delivery is popular among many women who need to give birth, but in China, there are very few options for water delivery. Most women still choose natural delivery and painless delivery, and most women who choose cesarean section are forced to choose it because they cannot give birth naturally.

Natural childbirth accounts for the largest proportion of various childbirth methods, because natural childbirth causes the least harm to mothers and babies, so when there are no unexpected situations, doctors will also recommend mothers to have natural childbirth. Although there is not much difference between painless childbirth and natural childbirth, except that you don’t feel pain, painless childbirth has certain risks.

Painless childbirth does not make the mother feel pain, so some women may experience unexpected situations during childbirth. Because the principle of painless childbirth is to inject anesthetics into the spine to make the pain infeelless, so in this case, the mother cannot distinguish the condition of the fetus during childbirth, so the probability of accidents is also greater.

Which method of childbirth is best?

Here are their advantages and disadvantages:

1. Natural childbirth

Natural childbirth refers to a method of childbirth in which the fetus is delivered vaginally without artificial intervention, provided that safety is guaranteed. When a pregnant woman decides to have a natural childbirth, she should first understand when the due date is and the entire process of childbirth.

advantage

(1) Postpartum recovery is fast. You can get out of bed and walk on the day of delivery. Generally, you can be discharged from the hospital in 3-5 days, and the cost is relatively low.

(2) The baby can eat and breastfeed immediately after delivery.

(3) There will only be wounds in the vagina, with few complications.

(4) For infants, their lung function is exercised when they come out of the birth canal, and their skin nerve endings are stimulated and massaged, so their nervous and sensory systems develop better, and the overall body function also develops better.

Disadvantages: prenatal labor pain; unexpected situations during vaginal delivery; vaginal relaxation; sequelae of pelvic uterine and bladder prolapse

2. Caesarean section

Caesarean section is to cut open the abdominal wall and uterus to take out the fetus. If the case is selected properly and the operation is performed in time, it can not only save the life of the mother and the baby, but also enable the mother and the baby to maintain normal production performance and the ability to continue to reproduce. Otherwise, not only will the expected effect not be achieved, but it may also cause long-term adverse effects, so careful consideration must be given before the operation. Caesarean section is an important surgical method of midwifery.

advantage

(1) When vaginal delivery is absolutely impossible for some reason, a caesarean section can save the life of the mother and the fetus. A caesarean section is required when a mother cannot have a vaginal delivery or when a vaginal delivery may be dangerous to the mother or the fetus.

The indications for cesarean section are clear, and anesthesia and surgery are generally smooth.

(2) If an elective caesarean section is performed before uterine contractions begin, the mother can be spared the pain of labor.

If there are other diseases in the abdominal cavity, they can also be treated together, such as ovarian tumors or subserosal uterine fibroids, which can be removed at the same time. In cases where it is not suitable to retain the uterus, such as severe infection, incomplete uterine rupture, multiple uterine fibroids, etc., the uterus can also be removed at the same time.

Disadvantages: more bleeding; more complications; slower recovery after delivery; longer hospital stay; subsequent pregnancy after delivery can easily cause uterine rupture

3. Painless childbirth

Painless childbirth, medically known as labor analgesia, is the use of various methods to reduce or even eliminate the pain during childbirth.

One method is pharmacological, which uses anesthetics or analgesics to achieve analgesic effects. There are many methods of pharmacological labor analgesia, including systemic medication, local anesthesia, and inhalation anesthesia.

Another method is non-drug, which is to reduce labor pain through prenatal training, guiding breathing during uterine contractions, etc.; massaging the painful area during delivery or using methods such as traditional Chinese medicine acupuncture can also relieve labor pain to varying degrees, which also belongs to non-drug labor analgesia.

advantage

(1) Relieve the fear of labor pain in parturients;

(2) Rapid onset of action and reliable effect;

(3) Relieve the adverse physiological reactions caused by labor pain.

Disadvantages: High technical content, requiring professional anesthesiologists to operate;

4. Water birth

Water birth, as the name suggests, is giving birth in water. Its definition is: the newborn is completely immersed in water during delivery. During this process, the newborn's head must be completely immersed in water until the whole body is delivered under water, and then the newborn is immediately taken out of the water.

advantage

(1) Minimize the pain of labor for mothers.

(2) Water birth can shorten the delivery process.

(3) Water birth can lower maternal blood pressure.

(4) The fluidity of the water allows mothers to choose the most comfortable position for delivery.

(5) Water birth makes it easier for nervous mothers to relax.

(6) Provide the mother with an active support and protection space to save her physical energy.

(7) It can reduce the use of drugs and other interventional treatments.

(8) Water birth can reduce vulvar trauma and avoid episiotomy.

shortcoming

(1) Easy to be infected.

(2) It is expensive.

(3) It is difficult to monitor the fetal heartbeat.

(4) There are technical risks; improper selection of drug dosage and concentration may have adverse effects on the delivery process and mother and baby.

Which stage of labor is most painful?

During the birth process, there is mild contraction discomfort at first, just like the menstrual uterus. In the subsequent first stage of labor until the end of the birth, as the contraction increases, the intensity of the pain gradually increases, the degree of pressure and muscle tissue stretching also increases, and strong local tingling also occurs. The entire production process lasts an average of 8 hours, during which nausea, fatigue and pain coexist. Some mothers who have a cesarean section are converted to a cesarean section, so they also experience prenatal pain.

How many stages of labor are there?

During childbirth, the delivery process can be divided into three stages.

The first stage of labor is the period from regular uterine contractions to full dilation of the cervix. It takes about eleven hours for a primipara, which is relatively longer than that for an experienced mother, and relatively shorter, about six to eight hours.

The second stage of labor is from the time when the cervix is fully dilated until the baby is born. It takes about one to two hours for a primipara, and a shorter time for a multipara, which may be completed in a few minutes. The third stage of labor is the time when the placenta is delivered, which usually takes half an hour.
