The correct sleeping position during pregnancy is different in the early, middle and late stages

As the belly grows bigger during pregnancy, normal sleeping positions will not feel comfortable, so pregnant women can sleep on their stomachs, backs, or sides in the early stages of pregnancy, but not on their stomachs in the middle stages, and in the later stages it is best to sleep on the left side only.

Tips on sleeping positions during different stages of pregnancy

1. Early pregnancy

In the early stages of pregnancy, the uterus has not yet grown and the belly has not yet bulged noticeably. Pregnant mothers do not have to worry about their sleeping position at this time and can fall asleep in their usual position with peace of mind.

2. Mid-pregnancy

In the middle of pregnancy, pregnant mothers begin to feel the pressure on their stomachs. It is not recommended to sleep on your stomach at this stage to avoid direct pressure on the stomach and affect blood circulation in the uterus.

3. Late pregnancy

After the 7th or 8th month of pregnancy, sleeping on your back, stomach or right side can easily compress important blood vessels, increasing the risk of insufficient oxygen and nutrient supply to the baby and poor blood circulation in pregnant women. Therefore, the best recommended sleeping position is sleeping on your left side.

4. Intimate reminder

When sleeping on your left side, keep your knees slightly bent and place a small pillow between your legs to raise your calves, which helps improve blood circulation. A long pillow on your back can help support your body and reduce the burden on your spine.

Conclusion: The sleeping posture should be comfortable

Although sleeping on the left side is the best position in the middle and late stages of pregnancy, pregnant mothers should not reduce their sleep quality in order to insist on sleeping on the left side, because poor sleep will also affect the baby's health. Moreover, positions will often change during sleep, so don't worry too much that the baby will be affected.

The sleeping posture should be based on the principle of being able to fall asleep comfortably. Once the sleeping posture compresses the blood vessels for a long time and causes physical discomfort, the self-protection mechanism that everyone has will help the pregnant mother to change the sleeping posture in the sleep or wake up. Therefore, as long as the pregnant mother finds that she did not sleep on the left side when she wakes up, she can adjust the posture!
