What material is good for pacifiers? Liquid silicone is closest to the nipple.

Liquid silicone is closest to the nipple, and silicone pacifiers are the most common and best-selling pacifier material on the market. This material is non-toxic and odorless, and the touch is very close to the human nipple. It is most effective for children to use and can also promote the baby's saliva secretion. Let's take a closer look below.

What material is good for pacifier?

Liquid silicone is closest to the nipple. A pacifier is a tool that is put on the bottle to help suck milk. Based on the raw materials, it can be divided into: silicone pacifiers (transparent) and rubber pacifiers (yellow, the sulfur content is very likely to exceed the standard). Silicone pacifiers are divided into solid silicone pacifiers and liquid silicone pacifiers. Liquid silicone pacifiers are more transparent and softer than solid silicone, and are currently the most widely used pacifier material. Currently, most pacifiers on the market are made of silicone, and some are made of rubber. In comparison, silicone pacifiers are closer to the mother's nipples, are moderately soft and hard, and can promote the baby's saliva secretion, help the development of the upper and lower jaws and facial muscles, and are easier for children to accept.

There are several types of pacifier materials

1. Rubber pacifier

Advantages: It is soft and elastic, shaped like a mother's nipple, and can withstand high temperatures of 105 degrees Celsius.

Disadvantages: It has a slight rubber smell and is easy to distort and deform.

2. Silicone pacifier

Advantages: Transparent color, no bad smell, and closer to the mother's nipple. The pacifier with the best elasticity, better taste, soft and delicate, moderate hardness, and can quickly adapt to large temperature differences.

Disadvantages: Thin, easy to be bitten by children. If there are any scratches, dark spots, teeth marks, etc., you need to replace the pacifier with a new one in time.

3. Latex pacifier

Advantages: Latex is a pure natural green material with a light yellow surface. The latex pacifier is the closest to the mother's nipple among the three materials. It has very good elasticity and ductility and is relatively soft.

Disadvantages: poor heat resistance, cannot withstand sun exposure, and is prone to aging and damage. It generally has a lifespan of only one month and needs to be replaced frequently.

How to sterilize a pacifier

1. Boiling water disinfection: Before disinfecting the pacifier of a newborn, you must first rinse the pacifier with warm water. Then use boiling water to disinfect the pacifier. Generally, boil it for two or three minutes after the water boils.

2. Steam sterilization: This is one of the most effective and best methods. Steaming the nipple at 95℃-97℃ for 12-15 minutes can effectively kill most pathogenic bacteria without damaging the material of the nipple. There are many bottle sterilizers on the market that use the steam sterilization principle. You can put the baby bottle in the sterilizer for sterilization at the same time.

How to clean a pacifier

1. Clean the bottle and nipple immediately after each feeding. When cleaning, pour out the remaining milk first, rinse with clean water, and then brush the bottle clean with a bottle brush. It is best to prepare a bottle cleaner specifically for cleaning. In addition to the inside of the bottle, the bottleneck and spiral should also be cleaned carefully without missing anything.

2. When cleaning the pacifier, turn it over first and brush it carefully with a pacifier brush. If there are solidified milk stains on the pacifier, soak it in hot water for a while, and then use a pacifier brush to brush it off after the milk stains become soft. The area near the pacifier hole is relatively thin, so be gentle when cleaning it and be careful not to crack it.

3. After washing the pacifier and bottle, rinse them repeatedly with running water and place them upside down in a ventilated place to dry.

4. In addition to cleaning after each use, it is also necessary to disinfect regularly, preferably once a day. You can boil it in an ordinary pot, steam it in a steamer, or use a microwave oven, usually 8-10 minutes. The disinfection equipment should be dedicated, or you can use a dedicated disinfection pot.

5. Prepare a special sterilized pot, put the baby bottles in (glass baby bottles are recommended at this time, and plastic baby bottles should be put into the pot after the water boils for 5-10 minutes), add appropriate amount of clean water (to completely submerge all baby utensils), boil over high heat, put in pacifiers, bottle caps and other plastic products after 5-10 minutes, cover and boil for another 3-5 minutes, then turn off the heat. When the water cools down a little, use a sterilized bottle clip to remove the pacifier and bottle cap, dry them, and put them on the round baby bottles for later use.

6. Place the thoroughly cleaned bottle and nipple facing down into the steamer and steam for about 5 minutes, then take out and let cool.

7. After daily washing, there will inevitably be residual bacteria on tableware and other items, or they will be contaminated by bacteria in the air and grow on tableware and other items. In a wet bottle, the surface of the nipple is more likely to breed bacteria. If this continues for a long time, it will pose a serious threat to the baby's health. Infants and young children have weak resistance. In order to provide safe and clean feeding utensils for your baby, you need to sterilize the bottle and other auxiliary utensils at high temperature.
